Local baseball fans can cover one eye — and perhaps, both — before watching (or avoiding altogether) what is sure to be a painful World Series in New York.

Yankees backers already have had to endure the unenviable task of watching the sign-stealing Astros face the rival Red Sox in the ALCS. And now the Mets faithful can join them in postseason-viewing misery with their longtime NL East tormentors, the Braves, qualifying for the Fall Classic to face widely despised Houston for the 2021 crown.

The semifinal round of the MLB season provided little natural rooting interest locally, aside from a few straggling and aging Brooklyn fans from more than six decades ago hoping for an unrealized repeat by the Dodgers.
