Mehbooba Mufti Placed Under House Arrest Till Further Orders Jammu Kashmir Killings Protest

Srinagar: Former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti was placed under house arrest till further orders

The development comes hours after Mufti led a protest in Jammu against the civilian killings by security forces on Wednesday.

The former CM demanded authorities to hand over the bodies of the deceased to their families.

Earlier in the day, Mufti led a strong protest against the civilian killings by security forces and demanded handing over of bodies of the deceased to their families.

The former CM also claimed that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has been in force in the valley and thus there has been no accountability for the killings of the innocents.

Four people, including two civilians, were killed in a gunfight by security forces on Monday evening during an anti-terror operation.

Mufti along with PDP activists and other leaders staged a protest by holding placards that read: “Stop killing us, probe Hyderpora killings, end impunity and handover bodies to families outside party’s Gandhi Nagar headquarters.

Heavy deployment of Police forces was seen at the protest site, which stopped the protesters from moving towards the main road.

Speaking to reporters, Mufti said that families of the slain civilians are holding protests in Srinagar and demanding handover of their bodies.

“This cruel government is not even handing over the bodies after killing people. They (BJP) want to convert this nation of Gandhi, Nehru, and Ambedkar into a country of Godse. What else can I say?,” she said.

When asked about the IGP’s claim of there being digital evidence against those killed, she said: If they had prior evidence, why the police did not arrest them, as they have been doing on a daily basis.

Mufti is scheduled to return to Srinagar later in the day after completing her five-day tour of Jammu.
