How Russia’s musicians are taking a stand against the war in Ukraine


Talking from outdoors the nation a fortnight after the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, Russian rapper Oxxxymiron launched a video message saying that: “…there are tens of millions of Russians who categorically disagree with this war – and that should be said as loudly as possible”. Oxxxymiron was saying a sequence of charity anti-war gigs underneath the banner Russians in opposition to Conflict (RAW).

The primary live performance in Istanbul on March 15 raised $30,000 (£22,000) for Ukrainian refugees. The second live performance, at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on March 24, raised $50,000 (£38,000).
