Boris Johnson tweeted a photograph of himself in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, and within the caption he mentioned he was in Teesside. The tweet was later deleted however he has been criticised for the error
Boris Johnson was slammed right this moment for not realizing the place he was on a go to to the North East.
The Prime Minister blended up Tyneside and Teesside in a hastily-deleted message to voters.
Tweeting a photograph of himself in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, he mentioned: “It was a fantastic day to be out campaigning in Teesside.
“We’re delivering a massive programme of investment as part of our plan to level up the whole of the UK.”
His phrases sparked a wave of condemnation from native folks, insulted civic chiefs and MPs. Deputy Labour chief Angela Rayner mentioned: “It’s all just ‘the North’ to him.” Prof Dan Hicks added: “You can delete your tweet but Whitley Bay is still on Tyneside not Teesside.”
Martin Angus wrote: “Clueless idiot isn’t even aware of where he was campaigning. Tyneside isn’t Teesside.” Twitter person ‘The Geordie Ape’ replied: “You do know that Whitley Bay (where you are pictured) is not Teesside, right? It’s North Tyneside.
“Please never ever darken this part of the UK again.” Johnson was noticed going into the ‘Whitley Whaler’ the place he ordered a “small chips”. Then he went for a stroll and an ice cream on the promenade and was noticed chatting to walkers exterior native landmark the Spanish Metropolis.
The fish and chip store posted a picture of their customer with the message: “It’s not every day Boris pops in for Whitley Whaler chips!”
